Gathering planned for survivors

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather in their local communities to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing, according to a press release.
This year’s gathering will include a screening of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s new documentary, “Life Journeys: Reclaiming Life After Loss,” a new AFSP-produced Survivor Day documentary that traces the grief and healing journey that follows a suicide loss over time. It includes individuals who have lost spouses, parents, children and siblings. A panel of local individuals who lost loved ones to suicide will also share their experiences.
For many loss survivors, attending a Survivor Day event is an opportunity to discover they are not alone in their experience of losing someone they know and love to suicide. For those who are unable to attend a Survivor Day event in person, AFSP hosts a Survivor Day program online at survivorday.org.
A local International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea. There is no charge for the event.
