Sheriff’s Office identifies man found in vehicle fire

Authorities have released the identity of the man found in a vehicle fire in rural Steele County last month.
The man, identified as 64-year-old Herman Hernandez of Albert Lea, was reportedly discovered Oct. 23 after the Owatonna Fire Department and Steele County Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicious call at about 6:30 p.m., on the 2000 block of of Northwest 52nd Avenue, west of Owatonna.
Authorities have not stated where in the vehicle Hernandez was found or what might have led to the fire.
According to a press release, the identification was made through investigation and DNA evidence with the help of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension laboratory, the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office and the Steele County Coroner’s Office.
Further information is expected to be released as the investigation progress.
