HASTINGS — Dakota County prosecutors have charged a South St. Paul man with murder in the killing of a customer at a Dollar Tree store in Burnsville.
The criminal complaint filed Wednesday also charges 27-year-old Grant David Hendrickson with attempted murder in the wounding of another customer and other felonies in the Nov. 7 incident.
Sixty-nine-year-old Donald Joseph Hortsch, of Rosemount, was fatally shot. A 26-year-old man was left paralyzed.
The complaint says Hendrickson’s girlfriend got into an argument with a store employee who told her Hendrickson was a sex offender. Hendrickson later went there and got punched by the employee. Others removed Hendrickson from the store, but he returned and allegedly started shooting. He told police he acted in self-defense.
Court records don’t list an attorney who could comment for Hendrickson.
