After losing its opening game of the season nearly two weeks ago and having a game last week get cancelled, the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team was ready to get back on the ice.
The Tigers got the chance Tuesday when they traveled to Winona.
The Tigers got a strong goaltending performance from eighth-grader Maddie Schneider and two goals from winger Hannah Johnson to beat the Winhawks, 4-1.
The Tigers took 2-0 lead on Johnson’s second goal with an assist from Daysha Luttrell.
The Winhawks got a goal back when Maia Ellenburg snuck the puck past Schneider.
Then the Tigers would distance themselves.
Two third-period goals from Ally Rasmussen and Maddy Carstens put the game on ice for the Tigers, giving them a record of 1-1 heading into Thanksgiving break.
Albert Lea will return to the ice, at home, Tuesday against Waseca.
Start time is scheduled from 7:30 p.m.
