MINNEAPOLIS — Four people have been charged in connection with the killing of a Prior Lake man, which led to a police chase in the suburban Minneapolis that ended with officers shooting one of the suspects.
Brandy Lee Jaques, 39, Derrick Zechariah Smith, 28, Tyrel Lamar Patterson, 27, and Jonte Glenn Robinson, 26, face multiple charges in the slaying of James Herron, 42, at his home on Nov. 23.
According to court documents, the four suspects were on their way to a casino when Smith allegedly decided to buy marijuana from a nearby home.
The four suspects broke into the home from the back entrance, wearing masks and gloves, Robinson told investigators.
Two of the suspects went through the home and found Herron in his bedroom, where he was apparently shot once, court documents said. The assailants gathered all of the occupants of the home and demanded money. According to the documents, Herron would not give the assailants what they asked for and was shot in the head.
Robinson told police that he ran away on foot. The other three suspects fled in a car.
Court documents said that after the chase ended in Edina, Smith fled the car on foot and shot at Eden Prairie police. Police returned fire, injuring Smith. He is scheduled for a court hearing in Minneapolis on an assault charge Tuesday.
The other suspects are scheduled for a bail hearing in Scott County District Court on Tuesday.
It wasn’t immediately clear if they had attorneys.
