State fire marshal’s office called in to investigate
Authorities are investigating a house fire that killed one person Wednesday night north of Bear Lake in rural Emmons.
The name of the person has not been released.
Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to 68480 140th St. shortly before 5:30 p.m. for a report of a structure fire with a possible victim in the home. According to a press release, deputies saw thick smoke exiting all parts of the home and large flames shooting out the back.
Fire departments from Conger, Emmons, Twin Lakes, Alden and Hollandale helped extinguish the fire, and the victim was reportedly found in the home. The body was taken into custody by the medical examiner to be transported for an autopsy, the press release states.
Gold Cross Ambulance assisted on scene.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to assist the Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
