MAPLE GROVE — A Maple Grove man has been reunited with his golden retriever, who went missing after a traffic accident last month.
Daryl Algren’s car was hit by a semitrailer as he and the dog, Zoey, were on their way back from his cabin in Deerwood on Nov. 18. Zoey was thrown out of the back window on impact.
“That was the hardest part was driving away in the ambulance knowing he was still out there,” Algren said.
Algren and his friends and family drove to Milaca to search for Zoey every day for the next two weeks. Algren’s nurse spotted Zoey near her home, and her husband tracked the dog to a nearby house.
The homeowner laid out a blanket, some of Daryl’s clothes and food near a fire pit. Zoey was resting on the blanket when the homeowner checked the spot Monday morning.
“The weight of everything has just been lifted off my shoulders,” Algren said.
According to Algren, Zoey lost about 15 pounds and has a rash on one of his shoulders.
