Doty scores 28, leads Tigers to win

50 years ago: 1966

• Lea College of Albert Lea played its first ever home basketball game and were victorious against Pillsbury College 69-67. Scoring leaders for the Lancers were Jim Roberts (14), John Etlinger (13) and Tom Hanratty (11).

• Center Dan Doty of the Albert Lea High School basketball team scored 28 points to lead the Tigers to a 63-59 Big Nine Conference win over Rochester John Marshall. John Vollum scored 13 points and Darrel Gavle 12 for the Tigers

• Freeborn defeated Emmons 69-51 in a Border League basketball game. Bob Chicos and Jim Johannsen each scored 15 points and John Miller added 14 more for the Vikings. Gaylen Schewe had 15 points for Emmons.

25 years ago: 1991

• Punky Kraft scored 28 points and Leah Fallgatter 22 to once again lead Northwood-Kensett to a 62-51 win over North Iowa. The N-K Vikings raised their season record to 3-0.

• Goalie Tim Hanson recorded a shut out for the ALHS hockey team in its 7-0 win over Mankato East. Scoring goals for the Tigers  were Matt Nechanicky (2), Bill Klingbeil, Brett Adams, Todd Intihar, Mitch Tharaldson and Matt Stay (1) each. 

• The Alden-Conger volleyball coaches started practice with eight returning letter winners. They were Kim Erickson, Jayne Rasmussen, Theresa Trow, Amy Hendrickson, Amanda Lindeman, Ann Brandt, Christy Meererit and Jaci Gaard.

10 years ago: 2006

  The NRHEG girls’ basketball team defeated Medford 61-45 and remained undefeated in the Gopher Conference at 2-0. Brittany Hansen scored 36 points for the Panthers.

  The ALHS girls’ basketball team with continued balanced scoring defeated Mankato West 66-53. Hali Hendrickson scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds, Liz Thompson had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers.

• Jordynn Brackey scored 19 points and Megan Pederson had 13 points and 19 rebounds for the Lake Mills girls’ basketball in its 59-45 win over Mason City Newman.

• Madi Passingham scored two goals and Amy Gackstetter added one more for the ALHS girls’ hockey team in its 3-2 defeat of Owatonna.
