Albert Lea Mayor Vern Rasmussen Jr. is looking for nominations for his second annual community service awards program.
The program honors outstanding achievements in four categories: Volunteer of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Good Neighbor and Mayor’s Award.
“It’s a good opportunity to recognize what really makes the community — and that’s the people,” Rasmussen said. “We have a lot of people who do a lot of good things.”
The Volunteer of the Year should be someone who is a member of an organization who has shown outstanding dedication through projects and service this calendar year. The service could be in organizations such as church, 4-H, music, theater, school and civic groups, to name a few.
The Senior Citizen of the Year should be someone who engages in exemplary service among peers, has creative endeavors and promotes health, economic and other issues responding to the needs of senior citizens.
The Good Neighbor should be a neighbor who has on many occasions offered help, understanding, cheer, comfort or consolation in time of need.
Rasmussen will select the Mayor’s Award.
Nominations are due Jan. 6, and an awards ceremony will be in mid-February.
Nomination forms can be found on the city website or at City Hall.
