Minnesota defeats Army

The University of Minnesota (7-3) women’s basketball team defeated Army West Point (7-2) 70-52 on Thursday night in Minneapolis.

Minnesota’s defense held Army to 15 points in the first half, the lowest-scoring half by a Gophers opponent this year, including only five in the second quarter. The Maroon and Gold held off a second-half run by the Black Knights to win by 18. The Gophers shot 42.4 percent while holding Army West Point to 19.8 percent.

With the win, Marlene Stollings became the second-fastest coach in program history to reach 50 victories, doing so in 75 games. Carlie Wagner scored 20 points, Gadiva Hubbard 18 and Kenisha Bell 15.
