Duplicate Bridge Club

Duplicate Bridge Club played Nov. 23 in Austin at the Senior Center. Four tables began play at noon with players from Adams, Albert Lea, Austin, Rose Creek, Northwood and Mason City.

The winners were Dave Ring and Orrin Roisen, first; Vandy Newman and Ron Peters, second; Romelle Enderson and Bonnie Fritz, third; and Eunice Michaelis and Warren Behrends, fourth.

St. John’s Auxiliary

St. John’s Auxiliary met at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 21 in the St. John’s chapel.

President Jan Jerdee welcomed everyone and read a Thanksgiving poem. The group sang “Now Thank We All Our God,” accompanied by Irene Goskeson.

Auxiliary secretary Bonnie Schneider read the minutes of the last meeting which was Aug. 15. Treasurer LeAnn Knutson gave the treasurer’s report. The reports were approved.

The volunteer report was given by Deb Drescher. Hours for August were 1,092; September 857; and October 751. Year to date volunteer hours are 10,748. Day care had 60 hours.

Activities director Shirley Leeman reported on activities coming up in December:

• Dec. 1: Chris VonArx at 10:30 a.m.

• Dec. 3: Carrie Olvera at 10:30 a.m.

• Dec. 5: Shopping for the troops at 10 a.m.

• Dec. 9: Robert Coates at 10:30 a.m.

• Dec. 10: Dunnell Lenort at 10:30 a.m.

• Dec. 13: Van ride to look at Chritmas lights at 6:30 p.m.

• Dec. 14: Family Christmas party from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

• Dec. 15: Albert Lea High School chorale at 6:30 p.m.

• Dec. 16: Jonny Bird at 10:30 a.m.

• Dec. 21: Staff  caroling at 10 a.m.

• Dec. 22: Albert Lea High School choir caroling at 11:30 a.m.

• Dec. 23: Exploratory with junior high school children.

• Dec. 24: Pageant at 10 a.m.

• Dec. 25: Christmas Day.

• Dec. 30: Kent Larsen at 10:30 a.m.

The birthday song was sung for all residents having last quarter birthdays. Birthday cards are sent to each resident on their birthday.

Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee during the last quarter were East Freeborn, Our Savior’s, Ascension, Mansfield Lutheran, St. Paul in Conger, Grace Lutheran, Hayward Lutheran, United Methodist and Bear Lake Concordia.

Ascension Lutheran provided the program, which was Bev Jackson Cotter sharing stories of the past, Christmas story from 50 years ago and a poem about parables (confirmation class).

The next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 20 in the chapel. New officers for 2017 will be Les Harmon, president; Janan Beenken, vide president; Bonnie Schneider, secretary; and Patti Kimble, treasurer.

The meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer and saying the Table Prayer.
