The Albert Lea boys’ basketball team faced a stiff test in the Owatonna Huskies Friday night.
The Tigers were on the road in search of their first win of the season, but the Huskies weren’t having any of it, as they took off in the second half to beat the Tigers, 79-48.
Jack Buendorf led the Tigers with 14 points — eight coming from the free throw line — and Wyatt Siefels scored nine and Tanner Wichman added eight points for Albert Lea.
Coach Lucas Novosad was please with his team’s effort, including one individual in particular.
“I thought (Brendan Fredrickson) really stepped up his level of play,” Novosad said. “He did a good job. As a whole our team played tough, especially in the first half. We made some simple mistakes when the (Huskies) picked up the pressure in the second half.”
Fredrickson finished with six points.
Albert Lea will be back in action Tuesday night for its home opener. It will face Rochester Century.
Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
