Albert Leans began digging out from a band of wet, heavy snow on Wednesday after receiving more than a half a foot of snow overnight.
Snowfall began Tuesday evening and continued through Wednesday afternoon. Albert Lea had received 7 inches as of 8 a.m. Wednesday, and an additional inch of snow fell during the day Wednesday, according to measurements taken at the Albert Lea Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Classes at all area schools were closed Wednesday, and some are delayed today. As of press time, Northwood-Kensett Community Schools are closed today and Lake Mills Community Schools are starting two hours late.
The snow led to slippery roadways and numerous vehicles reported in ditches in Albert Lea and the surrounding area. A few minor crashes were reported.
Scattered flurries are expected throughout the day today with otherwise cloudy conditions. Friday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 25.
