Local students tour with orchestra

Tyler Egge and Solveig Lange toured with the Concordia College orchestra from Concordia College in Moorhead from Oct. 29 to Nov. 5.

The orchestra’s 2016 regional tour included stops in Devils Lake and Minot, North Dakota; and Buffalo, Duluth, Fergus Falls and Staples.

The 2016 Concordia Orchestra, conducted by newly appointed director of orchestral activities, Kevin F.E. Sütterlin, will perform “Romeo and Juliet” by Tchaikovsky, Beethoven’s “Overture to Egmont” and a five-movement commissioned piece by Adam Hochstatter entitled “My Name is Aiden.” This year’s faculty soloist will be Grigor Khachatryan on piano, performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor.

One of the college’s most distinctive performing groups, Concordia Orchestra is an outstanding 70-member symphony orchestra that has earned national and international acclaim.

Concordia College is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offering more than 50 majors, including 15 honors majors and 12 preprofessional programs.

Hayward native recognized

Emma Iverson, the daughter of Chad and Jayne Iverson of Hayward, was named to the fall 2016-17 academic year dean’s list at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Iverson is a 206 graduate of Albert Lea High School.

In order to be named to the dean’s list, a student must carry at least 14 academic credits and maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Bethany Lutheran College is a private liberal arts college of the church. The college opened in 1927 and is owned and operated by the Evangelical Lutheran Synod.

Area students named to SDSU dean’s list

Allison Grandstrand of Albert Lea, Rosemary Hubly of Clarks Grove, Kendra Davis of Glenville, Melissa Malakowsky of Hartland, Madison Reed of Hartland and Colin Wegner of Wells have been named to the dean’s list for academic excellence during the fall 2016 semester at South Dakota State University.

To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
