U.S. Postal Service mailing and shipping service costs will increase next week.

As of Sunday, the cost of a priority mail express flat rate envelope will increase from $22.95 to $23.75.

The cost of a priority mail legal flat-rate envelope will increase $1 to $23.95, and the cost of a priority mail padded flat-rate envelope will increase $1.50 to $24.45. Priority mail small, medium and large flat-rate boxes will also see slight cost increases, as will priority mail flat- rate, legal flat-rate and padded flat-rate envelopes.

A first-class mail stamp will increase 2 cents to 49 cents.

The cost increases came after the USPS received approval from the Postal Regulatory Commission for mailing and shipping service price changes.

“Although some of our prices will increase on Sunday, we will continue to offer great value and transparency in pricing, and we are committed to providing you with outstanding service,” said Cliff Rucker, senior vice president of sales and customer relations. “We realize that when you ship with us, your business becomes our business, and we are committed to delivering the value and excellence you and your customers deserve.”

Rucker said the price changes were made after major competitors increased some of their surcharges and prices.

“In some cases, our 2017 prices will be lower than the new prices our major competitors will charge in 2017 for similar services,” he said. “Many of our products include insurance, tracking and other benefits such as free packaging.”
