On Friday, Speaker Kurt Daudt, R-Crown, appointed Rep. Peggy Bennett, R-Albert Lea, to the select committee on technology and responsive government.
The committee will partner with members of the public to challenge state and local government to provide easy-to-use, technologically-safe interfaces for Minnesotans.
“Government is here to serve people, and we should be doing what we can to harness technological advances to make our systems more responsive to Minnesotans,” Bennett said. “Anytime we can make government more effective and streamlined for people, that’s a good thing. I look forward to working on the select committee to not only make government more consumer-friendly, but to also look for advances to bring about cost-savings for taxpayers.”
The committee will seek input from Minnesotans including persons relying on state income or health supports, businesses using the state’s revenue department systems, drivers needing licenses or vehicle title transfers, students and their parents.
According to a press release, the lead agency for government technology services, MN-IT, is completing the five-year strategic plan adopted in 2012. The agency will also adopt a new strategic plan in 2017 making the select committee both timely and appropriate.
