Charles Lee, 1928-2017

A memorial service for Charles A. Lee will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 E. Main St. in Albert Lea, and again one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea area veterans organizations.
Charles A. Lee of Albert Lea died Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea at the age of 88.
Charles was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Albert Lea to parents Simon and Ellen (Christensen) Lee.
He was a lifelong Albert Lea resident and active member at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Chuck graduated from Albert Lea High School and entered the U.S. Navy.
On Oct. 10, 1948, he married Beatrice D. Olson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
Chuck was a union representative for United Food & Commercial Workers. He was instrumental in the union-sponsored developments of Senior Court in 1972 and Senior Tower in 1982, built through HUD. Chuck was also instrumental in the reorganization of the Hillcrest Cemetery Association in 1987.
In his free time, Chuck enjoyed woodworking, golfing, fishing in Canada and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Lee; son, Michael C. Lee (Cindi), of Rochester; granddaughters Melissa Lee Lund (Aaron) of Albertville and Heather Lee of Minneapolis; brothers Kenneth Lee (Darlene) of Blairsburg, Geogia, and Gary “Fuzz” Lee (Mona) of Mankato; sisters-in-law Arlene Lee of Albert Lea and Sheila Lee of Seattle; numerous wonderful cousins; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Linda Kay (premature baby) and Linda Sue (leukemia at age 15); sisters Beulah Lillefloren (Ken) and Joyce Sward (Roger); and brothers Simon Lee and Richard “Dick” Lee.
