Identity of pilot in crash released

Authorities have released the identity of the pilot in the small plane that crashed west of Ellendale Thursday night.
Thirty-nine-year-old Daniel Johnathan Bass was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center. He had reportedly walked to a nearby residence after the crash and was later airlifted to the Twin Cities hospital.
His condition Friday afternoon remains unknown.
According to authorities, the initial flight plan was from Duluth to Winona. The Steele County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the flight plan had been altered and was asked to assist in finding the plane.
Federal Aviation Administration officials were at the scene of the crash Friday, and cleanup was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
The FAA remains the lead agency and is responsible for the investigation of the crash.
