Kindergarten through fifth-grade art students at Halverson Elementary School have been focusing on artist Wayne Thiebaud. Thiebaud was famously know for creating realistic paintings of desserts. In connection with this, first-grade students created a 3D pizza covered in realistic veggies to create texture. It taught them the standards of using and finding actual (feel) and visual (see) texture in a 2D work of art; demonstrating use of overlapping to show space; and using the elements of visual art including line, shape, color, texture and space.
