United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women met at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 1. United Methodist Women officers were hosts for morning coffee, followed by Merle Stensrud playing piano selections.

Eileen Larson, Adean Turner and Joyce Halvorson of Just Three Circle presented the United Methodist Women pledge service and reviewed where the pledge money is used.

The minutes of the December meeting were read by JoAnn Seuser and circle attendance and shut-in calls noted.

Ruth Vermedahl gave the treasurer’s report and stated the group will renew its pledge to Southern Prairie United Methodist Women District and Emma Norton Services. She also reviewed other commitments for speaker donations, REACT and United Preschool.

Spiritual growth chairwoman Turner read Corinthians 13 and excerpts from two books about love.

Sharon Nelson, social action person, encouraged members to pray for some resolution regarding the action regarding against refugees and restrictions of persons from certain countries entering the United States.

Judy Kary, sunshine chairwoman, reported that several cards had been sent.

Judy Hargrave, reading program chairwoman, reported on a book titled “A Walk in the Woods,” by Bill Bryson.

Carolyn Smith shared thank you cards from Southwest Middle School for the Bless Our School” program. A card from Larry Peterson, the November meeting guest speaker, was also read.

Jodi Bromeland reported on the prayer shawl ministry. She thanked members who have made the shawls and shared ideas how of they might be used.

The next UMW meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. March 1 with Hope Circle presenting the program and Martha Circle serving.

Duplicate Bridge Club

Six tables played during Duplicate Bridge Club on Feb. 7 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Gene Mucho and Ron Peters, first; Vandy Newman and Bud Higgins, second; Carolyn Higgins and Cleo Osmundson; Judy Bungum and Dave Solomnson, fourth; and Edna Knobbe and Rick Stroup, fifth.

Six tables played Duplicate Bridge on Feb. 8 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were  Gene Domino and Rick Stroup, first; Vandy Newman and Ron Peters, second; Loren Cleland and Bud Higgins, third; Eunice Michaelis and Warren Behrends, fourth; and Joyce Crowe and Millie Seiver and Dave Ring and Stan Schultz tied for fifth place.

Duplicate Bridge is played at 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and noon Wednesdays at the Senior Center in Austin. All bridge players are welcome to attend.
