Police identify University of Minnesota – Duluth student as shooting victim

DULUTH — A 22-year-old man who was fatally shot in Duluth is identified as a student at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Police on Wednesday identified the victim as 22-year-old William Grahek of Duluth.

According to a press release, Grahek attended UMD.

Officers were called to a residence in Duluth’s East Hillside neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. Grahek was taken to a hospital. Police later confirmed he had died.

Police said no one is in custody. Officers have identified a possible motive but have not released any further information.

Grahek was a junior at UMD, enrolled in both the Swenson College of Science and Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts.

In a statement, UMD Vice Chancellor for Student Life Lisa Erwin said the campus community mourns Grahek and extends condolences to his family and friends.
