An Albert Lea man who pleaded guilty last month to domestic assault by strangulation was placed on supervised probation for up to three years on Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.
Daniel Lee Maine, 42, was sentenced to a stayed sentence of nearly two years in prison. Maine was sentenced to 32 days in jail and was given credit for 32 days served.
Court documents state Maine was charged after the victim — known to Maine — told police that during an argument she and Maine had in the bedroom, Maine pinned her on the bed and put his hands around her neck, trying to choke her.
An officer reportedly found red marks on her neck consistent with her story.
Court documents state Maine left the residence after a witness said she was going to call the police. Maine initially said the victim assaulted him.
The incident occurred Jan. 30.
Maine was placed on supervised probation for two years on Thursday for fifth-degree controlled substance in a separate file. Maine received a statutory stay of adjudication, meaning if he completes probation, he will never be formally convicted.
