Alfred Schlarbaum, 1922-2017

Funeral services for Alfred Ray Schlarbaum will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 E. Main St. in Albert Lea. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Mike Gerhardt will officiate. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Alfred was born Jan. 4,1922, in Nimrod to Edwin and Elizabeth Schlarbaum. Alfred passed away Feb. 27, 2017, in Minneapolis. He was 95. He and his family were residents of Albert Lea for 64 years. Alfred was married to Joyce Lavonne Morfitt in 1945 and had five children with her and one child from a previous marriage. He worked for many years for Dickema Construction and was an over-the-road truck driver until he was injured in 1976. In retirement Alfred and Joyce enjoyed many winters in Arizona and Florida. In his free time Alfred loved spending time with his family. He especially loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was an enthusiast pool player and bowler and loved playing croquet at family gatherings.

Alfred is survived by daughters Karen R. Miner (Duane), Kathy M. Brekke (Dale), Linda Tuttle-Olson (Steve) and Patricia J. Amundson (Darrel); and sons David R. Schlarbaum (Geri) and Robert Mason. Alfred is also survived by grandchildren Robert Brekke (Deanna), Pamela Folven (Ray), Tamela Becker (Frank), Mark Tuttle (Brenda), Kristen Jensen (Angel), Leah Bjorklund (Lee), Michelle Anthony (Kevin), Elizabeth Watsula (Steve), Jason Amundson (Nicole), Christopher Amundson (Rachel), Emily Menke and Erin Schlarbaum (River); and brother-in-law Derald Morfitt. Alfred has 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren with two more due in May.

Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, of 49 years; parents; son-in-law, Steve Tuttle, four sisters Bonnie, Pearl, Blanche and Jesse; in-laws Henry and Sadie Morfitt; and three sisters-in-laws.
