Local activities are available for children on spring break
A bevy of activities are available for Albert Lea students during spring break.
The Albert Lea Recreation Department will host a Fun Day from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at City Arena. Ice skating, games, crafts, a movie and pizza will be offered for students in kindergarten through seventh grade. Tickets are $10.
A trip to Good Times Park in Eagan is planned for Tuesday. Tickets are $15.
Anyone interested in participating in the activities is advised to pre-register online under the Parks and Recreation tab at ci.albertlea.mn.us or by calling the Recreation Department at 507-377-4370.
Public skating is from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at Albert Lea City Arena. Admission, including skate rental, is $3.
Recreation programmer Jennifer Davis said activities during spring break benefit children and their families.
“A lot of parents work, so it’s something constructive to do,” she said. “So they’re not just sitting at home or playing video games or bored with nothing to do.
“Keep them active, having fun.”
The pool at Albert Lea Family Y is open from 1:45 to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday, floor hockey for students in kindergarten and first grade will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Floor hockey for students in second through fifth grade will be from 9 to 10 a.m., and middle school basketball will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The rock wall gym at Brookside Education Center will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
This week’s activities are a small part of what is offered to community members throughout the year.
