Betty Anderson Stoker, 89, of White Bear Lake died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at home surrounded by family.

She was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Jamestown, New York. She received a New York State Regents Scholarship to attend Syracuse University, where she graduated with a degree in political science.

After she married and while her husband studied medicine, Betty worked for the political science department at Yale University and then at a firm representing broadcast media in Washington, D.C. Betty and Lynn moved to New Hampshire where their children were born, and then to Albert Lea in 1962 where they raised their family. There, she was active in many community organizations and political campaigns. Betty was devoted to her husband and family as well as the dogs who were part of their life throughout. She was passionate about social justice issues, loved gardening and birdwatching, was a voracious reader and an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

A memorial service followed by lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. May 8 at Saint Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 900 Stillwater Road in Mahtomedi.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Lynn C. Stoker.

She is survived by children Valerie Stoker, Christine Ganzlin, Laura Stoker (Charles Stein) and Robert Stoker (Shelli); and her five beloved grandchildren.
