Twenty-Two college-age baseball players from throughout the country will arrive in Albert Lea during the last week of May to be a part of the newly formed Albert Lea Lakers baseball team, according to a press release.

The Lakers will be in thePioneer Collegiate Baseball league this summer.

Host families are needed for the players beginning the last week of May through the first week of August.

The program is said to be a vital part of the players’ success both on and off the field. Having players become part of a local family helps them stay grounded in an unfamiliar city, build life skills and affords them the stability they need at “home” to concentrate on building their baseball skills.

Host families are asked to provide meals for their player and need to provide a room with access to a laundry room and kitchen. Families can host one or two players and will be paid $150 for each player housed. Each family will also receive a family pass to games this season.

If interested in housing a player or players, contact Tom Jones at 507-402-3265 to receive an application. For more information, go to www.albertlealakers.com and click on the host family header.

The Lakers will host the Bancroft Bandits in their home opener at 7:05 p.m. June 2 at Hayek Field in Albert Lea.
