Fully Rely on God

On April 2, 57 people boarded a coach bus in front of Wok-N-Roll in Albert Lea. The bus’ destination was a 2 p.m. performance at Plymouth Playhouse in Plymouth. Before the bus departed, it was announced that the driver liked attention for a job well done. The bus passengers were instructed to give a round of applause when the bus arrived at The Church Basement Ladies performance and a round of applause when the bus returned to Albert Lea. The driver did his job and the passengers kept up their part of the agreement.

It is a tradition that the passengers hoot, holler and cheer for the last person to get on the bus. Carol Miller reportedly took the honors during this trip.

As the bus headed north, Bob Hanson introduced Bev Indrelie, Wayne Indrelie and Genie Hanson as co-hosts of Fully Rely on God — an outreach mission  of Central Freeborn Lutheran Church in rural Albert Lea to promote fun, food and fellowship. Genie Hanson was unable to attend the event due to illness.

Deal or No Deal was played for prizes, with Darlene Hendrickson winning the best prize of a gourmet candlelight dinner for two with dessert. Hendrickson was a good trooper as she accepted two small candles, a box of macaroni and cheese and two small boxes of jello.

According to a press release, The Church Basement Ladies performance was one laugh after another, especially with the men involved. The musical comedy was centered around a small Lutheran church in Minnesota celebrating its diamond jubilee in July 1964.

Gale Nelson gave the table prayer prior to the passengers getting off the bus to go to Wok-N-Roll.

Genie Hanson wrote a song for the Wok-N-Roll bus choir to the tune of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” Judy Hellie directed the first group of singers and Karen Erickson directed the second.

The group thanked Perkins, KFC, Arby’s, Dairy Queen South, Caribou Coffee at Hy-Vee and Trumble’s Restaurant for furnishing the prizes as well as the person who donated the Beanie Babies for each person on the bus to have. Each person on the bus also received food coupons in a bag provided to them by the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The next planned FROG activity will be to Lutheran Night at a Twins baseball game. The coach bus will leave at 4 p.m. Aug. 8. According to a press release, each person on the bus will receive a Twins beanie.
