After falling flat in its first game of the year, the United South Central softball was back on the field Monday night against Medford.

The Rebels struggled both at the plate and in the circle, falling to the Tigers 14-1.

“It was a tough game in tough weather,” Rebels coach Paul Meyer said. “(Medford) did a great job of taking advantage of mistakes.”

The Tigers had two innings in which they scored six runs.

“We put the ball in play, but could not group our hits or come up with a key hit to get us going,” Meyer said.

Having given up 29 runs in its first two games, USC will have another opportunity to straighten out its play tonight against Nicollet.

“We have to rebound fast,” Meyer said. “We play a good (Nicollet) squad (tonight).”
