ALHS puts on spring concert

The Albert Lea High School vocal department encourages everyone to come to the annual spring concert Monday, according to a press release.

There will be two different concerts, both in the high school auditorium. The concert will celebrate the accomplishments of the students from the past year.

At 6:30 p.m. the concert will feature the “Celebr8” choir and the Tiger mixed choir. These are ensembles of eigth- and ninth-graders conducted by Mary Bissen and Diane Heaney.

At 7:45 p.m. the varsity choir, concert choir and chorale will perform. The senior choir members will be honored at the later concert. They are Katie Boettcher, Kailey Christensen, Tristyn Ellingson, Hanna Johnson, Loryssa Petersen, Jenny Rodriguez, Sierra Simmons, Alexis Tasker, Bethany Tennis, Emily Wangen, Natalie Weiland, Heather Wirkus, Anna Boettcher, Leticia Gauna, Camryn Keyeski, Audrey Laite, Johanna Moen, Justine Nelson, Alexis Pesch, Liana Schallock, Emily Strom, Kelsey Villarreal, Madison Willey, Nikolai Brinda, Jack Buendorf, Sam Chalmers, Sam Ehrhardt, Ryan Nelson, Matt Palmer, Wyatt Sickels, Parker Smith, Cain Quickstad, Noah Iverson, Landon Kirchner, Dawson Luttrell, Travis Nemec, Logan Petersen and Aaron Zogg.

This year students from the choirs at ALHS have participated in choral festivals, chorale, caroliers, show choir, the solo and ensemble contest, Choral Arts Finale Festival, Big Nine Music Festival, All-State, trips to Nashville and Memphis, Chanhassen Dinner Theater and Minnesota Opera, and performed for community events.

In addition to the concert, the art department will showcase some student artwork in the commons. Concert attendees will have the opportunity to view a prairie plant garden outside the commons area.

Dustin Demmer, a past ALHS graduate, owns Blazing Star Gardens, and visited drawing b classes, where he introduced landscape design and botanical illustration. Students then created a sketch and researched prairie plants to create a drawing for the project. This was made possible by a grant through Southeaster Minnesota Arts Council.

Admission to the concert is $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Music concert passes are also valid for this concert. Tickets are available at the door and doors will open at 6  p.m. One ticket will gain admittance to both concerts.
