For a program record fifth straight season the No. 2/3 University of Minnesota Gophers are headed to the NCAA Tournament. The Gophers will play in the Tuscaloosa Regional and take on Louisiana Tech at 1:30 p.m. (CT) Friday. The game can be viewed live on ESPNU.
Alabama is the No. 16 seed and will face Albany at 4 p.m. on Friday. This will be the Gophers 12th NCAA Tournament appearance.
In total, 64 teams were placed at 16 different regionals on campus sites. Each regional is a four-team, double-elimination tournament. The 16 regional winners will advance to super regionals, from which the eight NCAA Women’s College World Series teams will emerge.
The Gophers had a historic regular season. They started the season on a program record 19-game win streak and are currently on a 25-game win streak. They have won more games than any other team in Gophers history and have a 54-3 overall record. They won their first regular season Big Ten title since 1991 and their third B1G Tournament championship in four years.
The Maroon and Gold are no strangers to playing away from home. They went 38-3 on the road with 20 true road victories this season.
