Man sentenced to 12 years in prison for abusing child

An Albert Lea man who pleaded guilty last year to first-degree criminal sexual conduct was sentenced to 12 years in prison Monday in Freeborn County District Court.

Lee Vincent Wells, 35, received credit for 295 days served. He will be on conditional release for 10 years after he is released from prison and will serve his sentence at Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud.

Wells reportedly engaged in sexual contact with a 4-year-old in May 2016 in Albert Lea.

Court documents state that upon officers arriving, Wells said β€œI am a bad person. I did it.”

Wells was then arrested and transported to the Freeborn County jail.

Court documents state Wells told an Albert Lea detective several times that β€œhe had done a bad thing and needed to be punished.”

Wells was reportedly known to the victim.
