50 years ago: 1967

• In State Line amateur baseball, Hayward defeated Glenville 7-6 in 10 innings. Bruce Olson led Hayward with three hits.

• Home runs by Tom Capistrant, Del Hovey, Lee Linde and Kent Dugstad led Trades & Labor to a 14-2 victory over Cabin Bar in an Albert Lea slow-pitch game. In a second game, the Moose Lodge with Dale Mangskau going 4-4 defeated Almco. Marlin Holcomb had three hits for Almco.

• Emmons Lutheran defeated Grace Lutheran 6-4 in an Albert Lea Church League softball game. Dave Christenson picked up the win.

• The Kiester-Bricelyn amateur baseball team defeated Rake 9-4 with Gabby Pierce the winning pitcher.

25 years ago: 1992

• Named to the 1992 Albert Lea Tribune All-Area high school baseball team were the following: Joe Sczublewski — Head Coach of the Albert Lea High School baseball team; Wade Hammer — A.L.Tribune All-Area Player of the Year. Named to the A.L. Tribune All-Area baseball team by school were the following: ALHS — Mike Piechowski, Bryon Carlson, Mark Willmert, Tom Drasher, Wade Hammer and Steve VanMaldeghen; United South Central — Doug Sander and Chris Bushlack; NRHEG — Neil Bentley and Greg Schultz; Glenville-Emmons — Doug Yost: Alden-Conger — Chris Sorensen.

• Results for the ALHS players at the Minnesota state high school tolf tournament in Class AA: boys —Todd Intihar 11th place with a score of 157 and in girls’ division Donna Boom 12th place with a score of 176.

• First baseman Kent Hrbek of the Minnesota Twins hit home run No. 250 in the Twins 4-2 win over the Kansas City Royals.

10 years ago: 2007

• NRHEG High School had three girls compete in the Minnesota state high school track and field tournament. Sophomore Heather Schmidt placed sixth in the 200-yard dash. Senior Krystle Lonning threw the discus and eighth-grader Alyssa Kerkhoff  ran in the 400-yard dash.

• Megan Pederson, Whitney Thompson and Sabrina Roll each had two hits for Lake Mills in its 12-6 win over North Central in Iowa high school softball.
