Duplicate Bridge

Seven and a half tables played Duplicate Bridge June 6. Winners were Loren Cleland and Dave Ring, first place; Joyce Crowe and Millie Seiver, second place; Larry Crowe and Bill Momsen, third place; Vandy Newman and Bud Higgins, fourth place; Sue Mann and Gail Nelson, fifth place; and Gail and Ray Schmidt, sixth place.

Five and a half tables played Duplicate Bridge June 7. Winners were Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher, first place; Dave Ring and Orrin Roisen, second place; Julie and Lorraine Quinlivan, third place; and Gail and Ray Schmidt and Loren Cleland and Bud Higgins, tied for fourth place.

Duplicate Bridge players come from Adams, Albert Lea, Austin and Rosecreek. Games start at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and noon on Wednesdays at the Austin Senior Center. 

American Legion Auxiliary

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 56 met at 7 p.m. June 7  in the Legion Dining Room. Bonnie Schneider, president, opened the meeting. A hand salute to the flag was given. Chaplain Kim Thomas offered prayer. A moment of silence in memory of the dead was observed, the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited and one stanza of the national anthem was sung. The preamble to the American Legion Auxiliary was recited by all. Secretary Ange Larson took roll call of officers and gave the secretary’s report from the April meeting. Deanne Adams gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved.

Committee reports were given by Ange Larson, education and Gold Star mothers; Betty Anderson, national security; Deanne Adams, service to veterans; Bonnie Schneider, public relations and membership; and Karen Cibert, children and youth.

Continuous year member certificates were handed out. There were 10 with 25 years, five with 30 years, nine with 40 years, six with 45 years, eight with 50 years, three with 55 years and one with 60 years.

Thank yous from Southwest Middle School students for snacks, scholarship recipient Cody Ball and Nation of Patriots were received.

Recommendations voted on and approved were to Ronald McDonald House, React, Commander’s gift, Youth for Christ, Exchange Club flags and American Legion Family Hospice Association.

The department convention will be from July 13 to July 15 at Shooting Star Casino Events Center in Mahnomen. The national convention will be from Aug. 18 to Aug. 24 in Reno, Nevada.

School supplies can be brought to the club from July 12 to Aug. 12. They will be delivered to Brookside for distribution to schools in Albert Lea.

Quarter drawing was won by Joyce Olson.

Lunch was served by Carol Olson.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 6. The board meeting will be at 6 p.m.

The group closed by singing one verse of “God Bless America.”
