Photography club holds annual awards picnic

The Lens & Shutter Photography Club had its annual end-of-year awards picnic May 18 at the home of Carol Haroldson. There were 25 members and guests present. 

The competition category for May was “Open.” Members receiving awards were: Darcy Sime, first place for “Multnomah Falls,” Allison Witter, second place for “Fishing With Grandpa,” and Carol Bertelson, third place for “King Of The Mountain.” Members receiving honorable mentions were: Ron Oyer for “A Change of Seasons,” Linda Eisterhold for “Catbird” and Jean Aamodt for “Yellow Crowned Night Heron.” Merit awards were given to John Eisterhold for “Looking for Nectar,” Linda Eisterhold for “Black Swallowtail” and Sime for “April Showers.”

Haroldson presented the June Wells Award for the best of the best photograph of the club year entitled “Mushroom on Moss” to Sime. Sime was also awarded the Ken Wangen Award for earning the most competition points during the club year.

Sime received first place for “Corn Crib in the Frost,” Jim Wendel received second place for “Fox Waiting” and Liz Reichl received third place for “Eagle at Wabasha,” completing the Best of the Rest of the photographs submitted during the 2016-17 club year. End of the year judging was performed by Bob and Betty Peoble.

Members receiving recognition for earning 100 or more points during the club year competitions were given “Century Club Awards.” They were: Sime, Bev Oyer, Wendel, Mitch Pederson, Reichl, John Eisterhold, Linda Eisterhold, Aamodt, Haroldson and Ron Oyer.

The next meeting of the Lens and Shutter Photography Club will be Sept. 21. Program will be on critiquing photographs. Competition category will be “Open.” The club meets the third Thursday of the month at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea building Room 465 on the lower level from September through May.
