Post 56 comes back in 5th inning

Albert Lea Post 56 played host to the Patriots of Rochester John Marshall Tuesday night. Post 56 struggled early, but thanks to a three-run fifth inning, they were able to beat the Patriots 4-3.

Rochester jumped out to an early lead in the game by scoring one run in the first and two runs in the second. Albert Lea was unable to match the early Patriot runs and were held scoreless until the fourth inning.

Albert Lea had chances to score in the early innings but left two runners stranded in the second and third innings.

Defensively, Albert Lea put in some solid work. Through the first six innings of play Post 56 turned three double plays.

Post 56 started their comeback and pushed their first run across the plate in the fourth inning. The run came after outfielder Alex Goodmanson was able to score from second base on a throwing error by the Patriots.

Facing a two-run deficit in the fifth inning, Post 56 was able to add three runs in the bottom of the inning taking the lead for the first time in the game.

The runs all came with two outs thanks to a series of throwing errors, stolen bases and multiple hits.

Post 56 had a chance to widen the lead, but left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth.

However, it would prove not to matter in the end. Post 56 held the Patriots scoreless throughout the rest of the game to win.

Post 56 will be back in action on Thursday when they hit the road to take on the Rochester Mayo Redhawks.
