50 years ago: 1967

• Doug Hartman struck out 17 batters for Hayward in its 8-3 victory over Glenville in a State Line amateur baseball game. Hayward raised its league record to 5-2.

• Kiester-Bricelyn stayed undefeated in the State Line League with a 7-0 mark after defeating Rake 16-3. K-B was led by Dale Haukoos and Harold Pierce with two home runs each.

• Winning pitcher Dick Wayne threw a four hitter for Alden-Conger in their 12-1 win over Lake Mills in another State Line League game.

• In an Albert Lea Church League softball game Grace Lutheran defeated Mansfield 11-1. John Thorson allowed one hit in the victory and Ron Mathews had three hits for Grace.

• Orlo Willmert hit two home runs and Ron Godtland had three hits for the Elbow Room in its 14-2 win over COPI in an Albert Lea Slowpitch League game.

25 years ago: 1992

• The A.L. VFW Post 447 baseball team swept a doubleheader over Rochester Post 1215 by scores of 15-5 and 12-2. Tom Drasher improved his record to 5-0 in the first game. Trent Struck had three hits and scored four runs for Albert Lea. Matt Trygstad was the winning pitcher in the second game. Post 447 to date had an overall record of 13-4 and a league mark of 7-3.

• The Albert Lea 14 and under girls fast pitch team defeated Blooming Prairie 16-11. Jessie Kuth had two doubles and a home run for Albert Lea.

• The A.L. U-14 Elks Division 4 boys’ soccer defeated Mankato 3-2. Scoring goals for A.L. were Dan Claybourne (2) and Jason Ferrington.

10 years ago: 2007

• Jared Gavle hit a three-run home run for the A.L. American Legion Post 56 baseball team in their 5-3 win over Waseca.

• The Lake Mills High School girls’ softball team with Megan Pederson pitching defeated Osage 3-1. The Bulldogs overall record was 21-5 and their North Iowa Conference mark was 9-2.

• The Albert Lea Colonels baseball team was defeated by Blue Earth 5-3 in 12 innings.
