When the Veterans Affairs clinic first started in Albert Lea, they where able to request a consult and get the veteran non-VA care locally at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. Now, it has to go through Veteran’s Choice, which is a different program. Mayo does not accept Veterans Choice, so the veterans who could be taken care of locally have to travel to a town that Mayo Health System isn’t in. A lot end up going to Iowa. Our clinic handles about 1,800 veterans. Mayo  must have a thing for veterans. Maybe they don’t like us.
