Duplicate Bridge

Duplicate Bridge was played on June 27 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Loren Cleland and Dave Ring, tied for first place; Gene Muchow and Ron Peters, second place; Theresa Baldus and Larry Crowe, third place; Barb Engebretson and Orrin Roisen, fourth place; Vandy Newman and Bud Higgins, fifth place; and Edna Knobbe and Rick Stroup, sixth place.

Duplicate Bridge was played on June 28. Winners were Loren Cleland and Bud Higgina and Dave Ring and Orrin Roisen, tied for first place; Edna Knobbe and Millie Seiver, second place;

Barb Engebretson and Gene Muchow, third place; and Vandy Newman and Ron Peters, fourth place.

Duplicate Bridge is played at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and noon on Wednesdays at the Senior Center in Austin. Players come from Adams, Albert Lea, Austin, Rose Creek, Mason City and Northwood. 

All bridge players are welcome. Those who need a partner may call  437-2750.

United Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women met at 9:30 a.m. June 7 in fireside room. Joyce Halvorson of  Mary Grace Circle introduced Vicky Helland, coordinator of the homeless shelter through SEMCAC’s Outreach Program in Albert Lea. Helland shared what the project offers at the Steven’s Street  site including housing for up to 90 days, furniture, beds, pots and pans, towels, etc. She gave the group a wish list of items needed at the shelter and said they are always in need of donations. President Jerry Horswell thanked Mary Grace for serving and Just Three for lining up the program. Horswell led the group in reciting the UMW Purpose.

JoAnn Seuser read the secretary’s minutes for the May 2017 meeting. Circle reports were given as were meeting places for June meetings.

The treasurer’s report was given by Ruth Vermedahl.

Reading Program Coordinator Judy Hargrave reported on a book titled “Navajo Summer” from the UMW library.

Sunshine Chairperson Judy Kary reported that six cards were sent this past month.

Mission U will be from July 14 to July 16. Topics studied this year will be Spiritual Growth: A Covenantal Community, Geographic Study: The Missionary Conferences of the United Methodist Church and Climate Justice. All meetings will be at the Kelly Inn in St. Cloud.

The next  meeting is Wednesday. Hope Circle served and Martha Circle presented the program.President Horswell closed the meeting by leading the group in the Lord’s Prayer.
