Albert Lea Community Theatre announces auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 and Aug. 29 at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, 147 N. Broadway in Albert Lea, for the comedy “Rumors.”

Directed by Rory Mattson, eight performances of the Neil Simon comedy are scheduled for Oct. 19 through Oct. 28. There are roles for five men and five women in the show. Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script. Rehearsals will be scheduled weeknights, with some weekend involvement closer to the performance dates.

“Rumors” is about the deputy mayor of New York who has just shot himself. Though only a flesh wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of farce. Gathering for their tenth anniversary, the host lies bleeding in the other room and his wife is nowhere in sight. A lawyer and his wife must get the story straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and miscommunications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.
