Albert Lea Chiropractic and Acupuncture gained a new doctor in May 2016.

Anne Sahr joined the team after working at a facility in Northeast Minneapolis for two years. She wanted to move back to the area because her husband grew up around here. Family friends connected her with Dr. Douglas Edwards, and since he was looking for a someone to help with the overflow of patients, she got the job.

“After meeting with him a few times, it seemed like a really good fit for me to move down here and leave the practice I was at,” Sahr said. “We really clicked well and it just made sense.”

Sahr was a dancer in high school and chiropractors helped her keep doing what she loved. She said she has always wanted to do something health-related and do something that was hands-on. She likes that it is different than going to a normal medical doctor.

“The hands-on aspect, and getting to know your patients and getting to know them individually, was really something that I enjoy,” Sahr said.

She said her job in Albert Lea is different than her previous job. Personalities are different, reasons people come in are different and people are more loyal here.

Sahr said chiropractic provides many benefits. Many people come in with general pain, including headaches, neck and back pain, and tingling. The practice sees people from newborns to people in their hundreds.

A typical patient comes in with neck or back pain. If they are a new patient they have to fill out paperwork so doctors can get an overall look of their health. After talking with them, doctors decide if X-rays are needed — which they normally are because it helps doctors get a full picture of the patient’s health. After that, doctors do a thorough exam to figure out an individual treatment plan. There are also different therapies that help with muscles, and the practice has a massage therapist.

Albert Lea Chiropractic and Acupuncture has been promoting services it offers that people don’t always know  it has, including children’s and pregnancy services, as well as acupuncture.

“It is something that I really love seeing,” Sahr said. “The little ones come in and I love working with women while they are pregnant, in terms of adjusting them and keeping them comfortable during their pregnancy.”

Sahr said her favorite part of her job is the patients. They are very trustworthy and allow her to try new things. She said she also likes getting to know them and the variety of things she can help them with.

“It’s fun to be able to create individual aspects for each patient and get to know them,” Sahr said.
