Letter: Mayo needs to tell the truth

It’s nice to see that someone else has caught on to the propaganda that Mayo has been spreading to make everyone believe what a great benefactor they are to patients. (“Is Mayo really on the ball?” from Sept. 19).

Since they have tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the people of Albert Lea and Freeborn County, they have been constantly running propaganda trying to make us believe it is to our benefit to drive 23 or more extra miles to have babies born and to have overnight stays after surgery.

I, for one, know what a great transition unit we now have in our hospital as I have recently been a patient there. Also, what makes the Mayo school year bullies think babies are going to wait for another 23 miles or more before putting in their appearance to the world?

We as a state have given Mayo millions when they are using them in the wrong direction. If the need to the patient comes first then Mayo has dropped the ball!

How about Mayo stop telling how they are benefiting everyone and really do it for a change. Stop taking health care away where it is really needed! Quit making patients the bottom line of a financial report and start reciting the Hippocratic oath!
