He was driving the truck east on 110th Street when it struck a field approach, crashing into the south ditch, west of the intersection with 840th Avenue, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash was reported at 8:18 a.m. The person who reported the crash said the truck was on fire and Thompson was trapped inside.

The person reportedly went to a nearby farm and obtained a fire extinguisher and put out  the fire.

How Thompson died has not been released. An autopsy is expected to be completed.
