U.S. Rep. Tim Walz released a statement Tuesday following the announcement from President Donald Trump’s administration about ending Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.

“Today’s announcement does not reflect the values of our nation. Let me be clear: these children are Americans. This is their home. Deporting dreamers, who contribute much to our society, harms our economy and our moral fabric,” Walz said. “Congress must act. I call on Speaker (Paul) Ryan and my Republican colleagues, some of whom have already expressed their support for DACA, to act immediately. This moment requires them to put their country and human decency over politics and I stand ready to work with them.

“My office stands ready to be a resource to any families in southern Minnesota who may be impacted by this announcement,” Walz said.

According to a press release, Walz sent a letter with his colleagues at the beginning of August asking the Trump administration to protect dreamers.
