50 years ago: 1967

• The Albert Lea High School football team defeated Rochester John Marshall 13-0 and tied for the Big Nine Conference lead at 6-0. Chuck Sherman scored both of the touchdowns.

• The Alden High School football team remained undefeated after shutting out Delavan 39-0. Chuck Reindal scored four touchdowns, and Al Lindemann and Ron Peterson had one each for the Blackhawks.

• Freeborn raised its Border League football record to 2-4 after defeating Elmore 26-13. John Miller and Jim JoHannsen each scored two touchdowns for the Yeomen.

•Touchdowns by Dave Long, Dave Gilbertson and Gary Johnson led the Melody Bar to a 20-0 victory over Piggly Wiggly in the Albert Lea Touch Football League. The Melody Bar remained undefeated at 7-0.

25 years ago: 1992

• The ALHS football team defeated Rochester Mayo 24-7. Lee Kuiters, Chris Clawson and Jake Veldman scored for the Tigers.

• The ALHS volleyball team defeated Rochester John Marshall 3-0 by scores of 15-7, 15-2 and 15-10. Laura Bisek had 13 kills and Angie Coughlin was 12 for 12 serving for the Tigers, and they raised their season record to 16-4 and their Big Nine Conference mark to 6-2.

• In the first round of section play, the Lake Mills volleyball team defeated Woden-Crystal Lake 3-0 by scores of 15-8, 15-2 and 15-8. Karla Olson had six kills and Caryn Reines was 12 for 13 serving for the Bulldogs. 

10 years ago: 2007

• Results of area participants in the Minnesota Elks Youth Camp Annual State Soccer Shoot-Out follow; girls division – age 8-9/1st place – Lindsey Horejsi; age 10-11/1st place – Brooke Hanson and age 12-13/3rd place – Cierra Maras; boys division – age 10-11/1st place – Preston Smith.

• Morgan Stadheim and Ariel Christensen scored goals for the ALHS soccer team in its 2-1 win over New Ulm. The Tigers’ season record improved to 12-5-1.

• The Glenville-Emmons volleyball team defeated Alden-Conger 3-1 by scores of 25-20, 14-25, 26-24 and 26-24. Jordan VanRyswyk had 12 kills for the Wolverines.

• Blake Kerhoff scored three touchdowns and gained 202 rushing yards for the NRHEG High School football team in its 30-6 win over Martin County West.
