Dawn Sandsmark, 1955-2017

Memorial services for Dawn Kay Sandsmark, 62, of Alden will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Shane Koepke will officiate. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Dawn died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna.

Dawn Sandsmark

Dawn Kay Sandsmark was born April 15, 1955, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Clifford and Lucile (Mengeling) Davidson. She grew up in Twin Lakes and attended school in Emmons. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Nov. 6, 1976, Dawn married Gary Sandsmark at Bear Lake Concordia Lutheran Church.

Dawn was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and earlier at Bear Lake Lutheran Church. Dawn worked as a nursing assistant/trained medication aide at St. John’s Lutheran Community. Dawn liked attending her children and grandchildren’s events, flower gardening, grilling, crossword puzzles, playing board games and cribbage and watching home improvement and cooking shows on television. She enjoyed cooking and baking — especially lefse. She loved spending time with family, chocolate sweets and Dr. Pepper.

Dawn is survived by her husband, Gary; children Chad Sandsmark, Curtis (Lindsey Reese) Sandsmark and Renae Sandsmark; grandchildren Ayden Sandsmark, Skyler Sandsmark and Madison Reese; siblings Nola (Don) Bengry, Pat (Garry) Armstrong, Marsha (Dennis) Ellertson, Wayne (Annie) Davidson, Pennie (Len) Gillette, Celeste Howard, Craig (Pam) Davidson and Bruce Davidson; mother-in-law, Kitty Sandsmark; sister-in-law, Diane King; and many nieces and nephews.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Lucile Davidson; sisters Tammy and Sheila Davidson; and father-in-law, Marlin Sandsmark.
