Essay contest winners announced

- Winners of the Voice of Democracy contest were Claire Sherman, second place, and Ben Seavey, first place. The theme was “My Responsibility to America.” Pictured with them are Clarence Tovar, VFW Post 447 past commander, and Marilyn Danielsen, VFW 447 Auxiliary Voice of Democracy chairwoman. The 2017-18 theme is “American History: Our Hope for the Future.” The Patriotic audio essay competition is due Oct. 31. National top prize is $30,000. Local, district and state prizes will also be awarded. - Provided
