Lake Mills volleyball wins conference 10 years ago

50 years ago: 1967

•The Albert Lea High School football team remained undefeated at 4-0 in the Big Nine Conference with a 20-14 victory over Austin. Scoring touchdowns for the Tigers were Denny Larson, Chuck Sherman and Jay Gustafson.

•Tom Saylir scored two touchdowns to lead the Wells High School football team to a 29-9 win over Austin Pacelli. Quarterback Steve Schulz threw two touchdown passes to Dick Kellehan for Pacelli.

•In a North Iowa Conference football game, Lake Mills defeated Osage 13-6. Bruce Helgeson and Mike Knudtson scored for the Bulldogs.

25 years ago: 1992

•The ALHS football team won their first game of the year in a 42-20 win over St. Louis Park. Quarterback Pete Breitholtz threw touchdown passes to Chris Clawson, Dusty Gonzalez and Brenden Danielson. Richard Nyegaard kicked two field goals for the Tigers.

•The United South Central girls’ tennis team defeated ALHS 4-3. Winning matches for USC in singles matches were at No. 2 Pepper Hage, at No. 3 Melissa Birk and at No. 4 Jill Pagenkopf. Jenni Klocek and Jessie Steele won at No. 1 doubles for the winning margin.

•The ALHS volleyball team raised their season record to 13-4 after defeating Rochester Mayo 3-0 by scores of 15-11, 15-5 and 15-4. Kathy Skaar was 13 for 13 serving and Laura Bisek had 13 kills for the Tigers.

10 years ago: 2007

•Northwood-Kensett,the 10th ranked football team in Iowa, raised their season record to 5-0 with a 35 to 6 win over Graettinger. Michael Bachtle scored three touchdowns, Michael Steiff and Ryan Mueller had one each for the Vikings.

•Joe Narverud of Albert Lea scored a hole-in-one at the 144-yard 8th hole at the Green Lea Golf Course.

•The Lake Mills girls volleyball team defeated Forest City 3-1 and Osage 3-0 to win their 5th straight North Iowa Conference title. The Bulldogs season record was 31-2.

•The NRHEG High School volleyball team defeated Medford 3-2 by scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-17, 17-25 and 15-9. Cailin Timm had 12 kills and Alyssa Hagen had nine kills for the panthers.

•Quarterback Mitchell Kleinschrodt threw for 287 yards for the Alden-Conger High School football team in its 45-12 win over Truman.
