Sandra’s love of helping others led her to pursue a long and fulfilling career as a nurse at North Central Human Services — now Mosaic — in Forest City, where she worked for over 25 years.

To those that knew her, Sandra was a compassionate caregiver whose love knew no boundaries. In her professional life, Sandra’s love was for her clients, many of whom she considered family. In her Christian life, Sandra showed love as a missionary, church pianist and long-time Sunday school teacher. In her personal life, that love translated into many family camping trips and many more handmade quilts.

Some of her favorite memories included spending time with family and friends, attending the Freeborn County Fair and helping orphans on a mission trip to Romania.

Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are her daughters Shannon (Chuck) Johnson of Roanoke, Virginia, and Tammy Smit of Lake Mills; stepson, Daniel Kelley, of Mason City; sister, Patricia “Pat” Rasmussen, of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Monica Boe, of Lake in the Hills, Illinois; grandchildren Tyler, Christopher, Destiny, Aubrey, Sonya, Sara, Isaac and Michelle; many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren; Larry Smit, whom she considered a son; and, of course, her loving fur babies. This list does not include the many other friends and relatives who were graced with knowing her.

Sandra is preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents Leonard and Althea; brother, Dennis; and brother-in-law, Richard “Johnny” Kelley.
