Swim team dominates at home

The Albert Lea girls’ swim team dominated the visiting Tri-City United squad Tuesday night.

A small Titan swim team granted the Tigers the opportunity to run away with their first win of the season, 77-61.

The first race of the night was the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Jaeda Koziolek, Emily Taylor, Natalie Nafzger and Lydia Boorsma finished more than 20 seconds faster than the second-place finishers at 2:03.06. Albert Lea also finished second with the team of Taya Jeffrey, Lauren Bizjak, Esperanza Johnson and Jill Peterson.

Seniors Lexie Simon and Emma Grossman battled in the 200-yard freestyle. Simon edged out Grossman by just over one second, finishing with a time of 2:28.37. Simon also took second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:25.22. She was only beaten by teammate, Koziolek, who finished at 1:16.7

Junior Emily Taylor picked up the individual wins in both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke with times of 2:23.31 and 1:06.95 respectively. Taylor was also on the 400-yard relay team that took first place with a time of 4:16.44. She was joined on the team by Boorsma, Grossman and Nafzger.

Nafzger also picked up an individual victory in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:03.33.

Boorsma, Peterson and Bizjak all finished within two seconds of each other in the 50-yard freestyle to take first, second and third places.

Johnson finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:27.76.

Koziolek breezed to a victory in the 500-yard freestyle beating the competition by more than 30 seconds, with a time of 5:52.92.

The team of Bizjak, Grossman, Simon and Koziolek also nabbed first place in the 200-yard relay with a time of 1:59.70.

It was a complete performance from the Tigers Tuesday night. They took first and second place in each race they participated in.

Albert Lea will be back in action and try to ride their wave of momentum Thursday when they travel to take on the Cougars of Mankato East.
