Similar to the former Albert Lea Walmart location, another previous southern Minnesota Walmart site will become a Bomgaars store.

Albert Lea resident Robert Hoffman, owner of Robert Hoffman Realty Inc., announced Friday that his company leased a property at 1210 Giant Drive in Blue Earth to Bomgaars department store.

“It worked out real slick,” he said.

Hoffman stated the same people his company worked for regarding the former Walmart building in Albert Lea that was leased to Bomgaars in 2016 hired him in October to market and broker the Blue Earth building.

“Long story short, they leased it,” he said.

A family owned and operated supplier with 81 stores in Iowa, Colorado, Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wyoming, Bomgaars is headquartered in Sioux City, Iowa, and employs approximately 2,400 people.

Hoffman said the building is approximately half the size of the Bomgaars building in Albert Lea and called the development a “huge benefit” to Blue Earth.

“It’s kind of exciting to say you sold two Walmarts,” said Hoffman, who connected his recent success in selling buildings to other local business owners who make due with relatively-small staffs.

The city of Blue Earth is expected to release more information about the transaction Monday.
